I didn't put THAT much effort into my application. A decent SAT score (1200's), a solid GPA (3.7) and a good essay did it for me. I did not visit the campus until after I got accepted and I did not interview.

GW's becoming more and more competitive as it becomesMay 27 2004Communications
GW's becoming more and more competitive as it becomes more popular. Last year (when I applied--2002/2003), there were about 700 kids on the waiting list. This year, there are 2000. I wasn't on the waiting list, but I know a friend of mine who was right-out rejected, and she had a solid GPA and SAT score. So grades and tests are not all that counts! I got a 1420 on my SATs and 700+ on my SAT2s, but I had a 3.3 GPA from high school (i went to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Tech in Alexandria VA-- www.tjhsst.edu)! My extracurriculars, recs, and essays were my strong points. GW really likes to see extracurriculars-- especially community service and anything having to do with leadership. Your recommendations and essays are also important! And being a minority is definitely an advantage!so don't forget to check that box in the race/ethnicity section. lastly, you might be qualified but you are put on the waiting list or you still don't get in. tons of people are qualified but it gets to a point where admissions just has to pick and choose b/c there's not enough space in the class for everyone. if you get put on the waiting list, write a letter re-stating why you're so interested in the university and why you are a good candidate. i would also recommend calling and asking for an interview-- the more interest you show, the more admissions will recognize your name and want to accept you. good luck!
